Files System Commands - Help
____________________________
[D]ownload a File :
________________________
If you type [D], you will be asked for the filename you wish to
download. When you first registered on this BBS you were asked for
a default protocol. If you chose NONE, then you will be prompted
to choose a protocol at this point. After you have chosen a protocol,
GAP will ready itself to transmit the file you want.
Please note that the protocol you choose on GAP must match the
protocol you've set up in your Communications Program.
For instance. If you are setup on this BBS with XModem-CRC as your
default protocol, be sure to choose XModem-CRC in your Communications
Program before attempting to download.
This matching of transfer protocols also applies to uploads.
If you don't know what your default protocol on this BBS is, type V
at the Main Command Prompt (View/Change Stats). GAP will display a
list of pertinent facts regarding your times on the BBS. Check the
PROTOCOL to see which one you are using. If you wish to change
protocols, you may do so at this point by typing T. GAP will give
you a choice:
[A]scii [I]modem
[X]modem [F]Xmodem 1K (Full Flow)
[C]rc Xmodem [G]Ymodem-G
[1]K Xmodem [Z]modem
[Y]modem [N]one
Just type the letter of the protocol you wish. X for XModem,
C for XModem-CRC, and 1 for Xmodem 1K. Note that Xmodem 1K
is generally the same as what many communications programs
term Ymodem.
YModem is "True" YModem, a batch download protocol. If you have
been tranferring with YModem in the past and find you have trouble,
switch to 1k-XModem in GAP. ZModem is a batch protocol.
XModem-1k (Full Flow), YModem-G, and IModem are ECC protocols and
require an MNP modem to use.
If you choose [N]one, GAP will ask you for a protocol the next time
you initiate a transfer. This will then become your default protocol.
if you wish to override your default protocol, you may do so at any
time by appending the protocol letter after the filename.
For example: D WICKED.ARC Z will automatically SEND you the filename
using ZModem.
Batch Downloading
-----------------
If you are using a batch protocol (Ymodem or Zmodem) or an
external batch protocol that the sysop has provided, you will
be allowed to specify as many file names as the sysop allows.
In addition, if you use wild cards in one of the names, GAP
will locate all the files matching your specifications. The
'?' is not allowed as a wild card, and the first character
of the file name may not be a '*'.
Correct Wild Cards : DSZ*.* DSZ*.ZIP
Incorrect Wild Cards : *.* ????A*.*
GAP will allow you to Edit the Download List. You may List
the files, Delete 1 or more files, or Continue entering files.
To Delete a file from the list, Select Edit, then Delete. To
delete a single file, type its file #. To delete a range
of files, type the starting #, then a '-', then the ending
#. to delete a series of files, type each # separated by a
comma.
Examples for Deleting files in the Download List:
1 Delete a single file
1-4 Delete files 1 thru 4
1,3,4 Delete files 1, 3, and 4
Note that when entering a range, there is no space between
the 'dash' and the numbers. Similarly, when entering a
series of numbers, there is no space between the 'comma' and
the numbers.
Be careful when entering a series of numbers. You must make
sure to enter the numbers in order. For instance, 1,2,3,4
will delete files 1 thru 4, but if you enter 4,3,2,1 or
1,3,2,4, only the first file will be correctly deleted. The
other 3 files that are deleted won't be what you asked for.
To prevent you from improperly deleting files, if the # of
the file currently being deleted is less than the # of the
file that was deleted the previous time, GAP wont delete any
more files. You will have to re-enter your list in the
proper order.
Most of the files on a BBS have been archived. The archives may
consist of one or more files. To utilize a file with an .ARC
extension you must have one of the "unarcing" programs. Some of
the unarcing programs are not compatible with one another so it is
best to have them all. The program PKXARC.COM however can currently
handle all archive formats.
